Flor de Maga

This piece, called "Flor de Maga," is a tribute to my heritage and the happy memories of my childhood. It captures the nostalgic feeling and the strong influence of a mother's cooking. The art of cooking has been passed down from generation to generation, connecting us to our roots and giving us a cozy and comforting feeling.

When we learn to cook from the women who came before us or enjoy a meal made at home, it takes us back to the carefree days of our youth. There is something truly special about the food in Hispanic culture, and this artwork aims to bring back those cherished childhood memories and touch the hearts of those who see it.

"Flor de Maga" reminds us of the special connection we have with our cultural traditions and how they shape our lives. It celebrates the power of food to bring us closer to our heritage, filling us with happiness and nostalgia that never fades away.

Where is My Mind

"Where is My Mind." It explores the challenges faced with mental health, capturing the balancing act of managing emotions while on the verge of falling apart. The artwork delves into the experience of grappling with overwhelming emotions, often without a clear understanding of why. It explores a wide range of feelings, confusion, fear, joy, or a sense of emptiness.

The vibrant colors in this piece serve as a means to conceal the inherent ugliness of these struggles, presenting them in a more  appealing manner. It symbolizes the facade we often wear, putting on a smile and pretending that everything is okay, despite what we may be experiencing within.

Valentina

This artwork, which I've named "Valentina," holds a special place in my artistic journey. It serves as my first self-portrait and marks my return to drawing after a two-year hiatus following motherhood. Previously, as an artist, I was overly critical of my work, constantly seeking realism and flawlessness, which unfortunately diminished my love for art. Additionally, I had never attempted to draw myself due to dysmorphia and the fear of critiquing my own image, which only fueled my insecurities.

However, "Valentina" is different. She represents a turning point in my mindset and reignites my passion for art. She is a simple doodle, free from the constraints of criticism and perfectionism. This piece allows me to embrace imperfections and make mistakes without judgment. It's a reminder to focus on the pure joy and passion that art brings, rather than getting caught up in self-doubt. "Valentina" may appear simple, but she carries immense significance in my work to come.
